If you are using GNU/Linux
- Download Meera font. (Any UNICODE Malayalam font will suffice, but this blog is optimized for Meera)
- Make a folder .fonts in your /home/<username> (If it is not there already)
- Copy the downloaded font to /home/<username>/.fonts
- Open Firefox, goto Edit–>Preferences–>Content (tab) –> Advanced (button).
- Click on the drop down menu “Fonts for:” and select Malayalam in the list
- Enter the following.
- Proportional : Serif Size: 18
- Serif: Meera
- Sans-serif: Meera
- Mono-space: Meera Size: 18
- Minimum font size: 16
- [√] Allow pages to select their own fonts, instead of my selections above.
- Default Character Encoding: Unicode (UTF-8)
- OK & Close

If you are using a Windows system (Assuming that you are using Windows XP SP2 or later) follow these,

- Copy the font file to x:/windows/fonts , where x:/ is the partition where you have installed Windows.
Assuming that you are using Firefox 3.0 or later,
- Goto Tools–>Preferences–>Content (tab) –> Advanced (button).
- Click on the drop down menu “Fonts for:” and select Malayalam in the list
- Enter the following.
- Proportional : Serif Size: 18
- Serif: Meera
- Sans-serif: Meera
- Mono-space: Meera Size: 18
- Minimum font size: 16
- [√] Allow pages to select their own fonts, instead of my selections above.
- Default Character Encoding: Unicode (UTF-8)
- OK & Close
